The San Carlos Clinical Hospital and its Foundation for Biomedical Research have awarded the prestigious 2025 ‘Antonio Gimbernat’ Award for Excellence to Dr. Fernando García de Lucas, in recognition of his outstanding medical, scientific and teaching career. This award recognises professionals trained at the hospital who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of medicine in Spain.

Dr García de Lucas, currently Deputy Medical Director General of FREMAP, is a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, with a notable subspecialisation in hand and upper limb surgery. His training also includes Sports Medicine, which allows him to address work and sports injuries with a comprehensive approach. For more than two decades, he has combined clinical practice with healthcare management, establishing himself as a national leader in orthopaedic surgery and medical leadership.

At FREMAP, Dr García de Lucas has promoted strategic projects in occupational health, medical training and clinical research. Under his leadership, the mutual insurance company has strengthened its care protocols, promoted technological innovation and reinforced collaboration with institutions. His commitment to medical excellence has been key to positioning FREMAP as a leading entity in the care of work accidents and occupational diseases.

In addition to his work in healthcare, Dr García de Lucas has been president of the Spanish Society of Occupational Traumatology (SETLA), co-director of pioneering training programmes and a speaker at international conferences. His research profile includes publications in high-impact scientific journals, addressing topics such as wrist surgery, tendon injuries, and advanced arthroscopic techniques.
